Using Pharmacy Networks in Medicaid Could Save Hawaii $29 Million
A new report estimates that greater use of lower cost pharmacy networks could save Hawaii’s Medicaid program $29 million without reducing access or the quality of benefits patients receive.
Hawaii Medicaid is already optimizing drug benefits in following areas:
- Increasing the use of generic drugs;
- Negotiating market-based pharmacy dispensing fees;
- Encouraging the use of more affordable, preferred brands;
- Reducing drug diversion, polypharmacy, fraud, and waste.
